The Pearl Chapter 4 Summary

Chapter four of The Pearl begins on the morning of the day that Kino will finally be rid of the Pearl of the World. He walks into the stone town of La Paz to sell the pearl, expecting a price of 50,000 pesos. However, the pearl buyer that he visits only offers 1,000 pesos while his colleagues offer even less. An enragred Kino leaves without selling his pearl. That night, his home is attacked again but the stubborn Kino rejects Juana's suggestion to throw the pearl away. Finally, Kino decides to go to the capital to sell the pearl for a fair price.

The Secret Annex

Most of the stage directions accurately described annex such as the long and narrow shape of Anne's room.

One thing I learned that was a bit surprising was that the two adult van Pels had a larger room than the one that Otto, Edith, and Margot shared.

Plot Vocab

Exposition- The exposition is the beginning of a story when the setting, characters, conflict, and everything else is introduced.

Rising Action- The rising action is the main part of the story when the conflict is complicated by the introduction of minor conflicts and obstacles.
Climax- The climax is the turning point of a story, for better of worse.


Falling Action- The falling action is the part of a story leading to the conclusion.


Conclusion- The conclusion is the ending of a story when the plot is wrapped up and the conflict is solved.
